Last month, our quantum community continued to expand with the addition of 5 new members and affiliates to QIC. ๐
A little about QIC's newest additions:
โEqual1: Headquartered in Ireland with offices in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Equal1 is working to develop the worldโs first hybrid quantum-classical computing chip.
โPINQยฒ: PINQยฒ, the Quebec Digital and Quantum Innovation Platform, supports companies, SMEs, and start-ups by helping them de-risk their digital transformation while supporting their innovations.
โQuantum Algorithms Institute: QAI provides the expertise, training, and connections for the accelerated adoption of quantum technologies across business, education, and government in British Columbia, Canada, and beyond.
โโQuantum Horizons Alberta: QHA, a partnership between the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and University of Lethbridge, is a new $25-million initiative to expand foundational knowledge of quantum science and pursue transformational research into the potentials of quantum physics.
โStreetwise Consulting: Streetwise is a premier marketing communications consultancy supporting quantum technology companies succeed and grow through professional marketing communications services.
QIC now represents over 65 organizations across Canada, a testament to the vibrancy and momentum of our nation's quantum sector.

Team Qanada at the Quantum World Congress 2024
Canada's quantum ecosystem shone brightly at last week's Quantum World Congress in the Greater Washington, DC area, demonstrating our nation's global leadership in this frontier field.
From honouring pioneers to showcasing innovative startups to discussing key policy issues, Canadian representatives across industry, research, and government made their mark. โ Here are a few highlights from the week: โ ๐ Gilles Brassard, one of the earliest pioneers of quantum information science, was honoured for developing BB84 (40 years ago!) and pioneering quantum cryptography โ ๐ฅ SBQuantum placed 3rd in the pitch competition, and Anyon Systems was among the top 7 finalists โ ๐ Phantom Photonics was chosen as one of only 10 companies to advance to Phase II of the NATO DIANA program
๐ 8 QIC members were featured in the Canadian Quantum Showcase, including Xanadu, Anyon Systems, Nord Quantique, D-Wave, SoftwareQ, Qubic Technologies, Phantom Photonics, and the Quantum Valley Ideas Lab โ ๐ evolutionQ's CEO and QIC Board Chair Michele Mosca gave a plenary on "Cyber Resilience in the Quantum Age"
๐จ๐ฆ Michael Rosenblatt and Rajat Ghosh from Canada's National Quantum Strategy Secretariat took to the main stage to share insights on global quantum strategies and policy considerations โ ๐ Nord Quantique's CEO Julien Camirand Lemyre was featured in a workshop on "Emulating the Apollo Space Program for Quantum Computing" โ ๐ฑ Institut quantique of the Universitรฉ de Sherbrooke and the Open Quantum Institute led a workshop on quantum and sustainability
โ๏ธ The Dรฉlรฉgation du Quรฉbec ร Washington convened the quantum community, fostering connections that bridge innovation across borders โ ๐ The Embassy of Canada in Washington hosted a special networking event, connecting quantum technology adopters and investors with Canadian quantum innovators
๐ Representatives from the Government of Canada and the National Research Council Canada participated in a multilateral dialogue on quantum
The Canadian quantum contingent was further strengthened by active participation from QIC members and affiliates such as CMC Microsystems, Quรฉbec Quantique, Distriq, the Quantum Algorithms Institute, the Canadian team from Honeywell Aerospace, and a few other representatives from across the country, amplifying our nation's impactful presence.

Montrรฉal has transformed into the global quantum capital for this year's IEEE Quantum Week โ the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering โ which is in full swing. Now on its 5th year, this is the first time the conference has been hosted outside of the US. โ QIC members and affiliates are out in force, contributing their expertise and showcasing Canadian innovation at its finest.
